【All Kwantlen Polytechnic University campuses closed due to 'unsubstantiated threat'】 ▸Surrey RCMP says it received information about a possible threat to KPU Wednesday morning ▸All of KPU's campuses have been closed and evacuated as a precaution as Mounties investigate an 'unsubstantiated threat' VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130 – An “unsubstantiated threat” has forced the closure of all Kwantlen Polytechnic University campuses. On its website, KPU says all five of its campuses have been shut down and all buildings have been evacuated after it was alerted by the Surrey RCMP about a threat, specific to today. We received information about an unsubstantiated threat which indicated a potential threat to Kwantlen University campuses, not specifying any particular campus, not directed at any particular person, but indicating today’s date,” Cpl. Elenore Sturko with the Surrey RCMP says. She adds the campuses will remain closed while Mounties investigate the threat, which have so far not indicated any risks to the public. “The move to close the schools was taken out of an abundance of caution while police go through the schools to ensure public safety.” It’s still unclear where the threats came from, but Sturko says the information was first received Wednesday morning around 9:00 a.m. “Especially in today’s climate where we have seen a number of real and serious incidents play out, these type of threats certainly have an impact on the public, particularly people who would be asked to evacuate places like this.” Sturko adds all threats are treated as credible threats until more information is obtained. “If this is in fact what turns out to be, as we believe at this point unsubstantiated, and if it turns out to be some type of… false report to police, then it’s obviously a big drain on resources.” -With files from Marcella Bernardo
